Some spiritual teachings choose to declare this a forbidden area and hence, abstain from it. Others urge its lucid exploration, mastery, and use of the gigantic resources concealed within it.

The subject, of course, is sexuality. And one thing is certain – because of the fascinating energy it stores and the subconscious echoes it produces, sexuality just cannot be ignored by one who wants to completely wake up and realise their essential nature.

The path of Tantra provides wise guidance for making maximum use of our energies. And the erotic energy is one of the most powerful in our lives. Tantra means much more than a technique of self-control in the oriental art of lovemaking.

It is a way of living that uses the fundamental energy of sexuality oriented upwards, for inner blossoming and spiritual evolution.

The risks of the energetic haemorrhage

Recent scientific studies confirm what was already established by the ancient Tantric and Taoist teachings: semen is the most precious resource of a man. A single drop of semen is the equivalent of forty drops of blood.

So, what does an amorous act that includes ejaculation – in the case of a man – and the specific orgasmic discharge (explosive orgasms) – in the case of a woman – mean?
A violent energetic haemorrhage, a wastage that leads to exhaustion. A single sexual discharge affects the male’s overall energy system for seven days.

Each ejaculation produces in his aura a crack through which his reserves of vital energy are pointlessly scattered.

The sexual discharge collapses the mental, emotional and spiritual energies of both the man and his beloved. From a deeper and more subtle point of view, some low resonances are triggered and, in time, these resonances will become part of their being. These will permeate their aura and block access to higher levels of their spiritual growth and evolution.

Experience the orgasm in perpetuum

The amorous continence that Tantra proposes implies a wise use of sexual function: first of all without sexual discharge (ejaculation), and also without cultivating inferior psychic resonances (obscenity, inhibitions, prejudices or perversities).

At a physiological level, sexual continence implies stopping of male ejaculation and of the specific discharge (during explosive orgasms and menstruation) that may occur in the case of a woman.

It’s not a case of repression. During a perfectly controlled erotic fusion, the matter (sperm in the case of the man, menstrual blood – in general – and other sexual fluids specific to female sexual discharge) turn into energy.

This phenomenon is called transmutation. This is an extraordinary process, with an essential role in erotic experiences.

It is only the beginning

The next stage, after transmutation, is sublimation, without which we cannot even speak of sexual continence and even less of the sacralization of Eros.

Sublimation operates with the energy resulting from transmutation, and uses this potent fuel to awaken and set in motion all seven chakras, the subtle life-force energy centres of the human being.

It sounds great, doesn’t it? A huge amount of energy enters spontaneously in a tank, and we learn how to direct it and redistribute it to other areas. It is an energy that we connect to an internal ‘illumination’ system that begins to operate intensively from the first floor all the way to the 7th floor.

And this makes possible a maximum activation of all our inner departments (chakras as they are known in Tantra): vitality, sexuality, will, affectivity, intuition, mental dynamism, and an intimate connection with divinity.

Fuel for the journey to ecstasy

The sexual energy and the creative energy of a human being are actually one and the same. At a concrete level, sexuality contributes to the creation of a new life.

It is a widespread belief, not only among the Tantrics, but also among the followers of other spiritual paths, that the energy that is wasted through ejaculation during a common sexual act could be used for other purposes.

Even the coaches of International sport teams know about this, for they forbid athletes (who don’t know about continence) to make love in the week before an important competition.

In the case of spiritual paths, however, sexual energy is not saved to win an Olympic title or the World Cup, but because it leads to spiritual transformation and to the union with the Divine.

Tantric tradition warns about the fact that learning physiological control is just the first step in a 1,000-mile journey. Sexual continence means infinitely more, because it brings a spiritual view on sexuality. This perspective helps in taking the leap from carnal pleasure to love, transfiguration and ecstasy.

Eros becomes a fountain of living water that fuels our journey to find God, with power, joy and ecstasy.

Using sexual energy as a rocket that propels our entire inner life to the highest peaks, we gradually manage to take control over our own instinctual, subconscious tendencies.

All the latent resources unite and gather together in a single impetuous stream that begins to climb the inner mountain.

This is actually the Tantric way – the orientation of our whole being towards spirituality, towards the Divine. Endowed with continence and sublime love, sexuality is alchemised and becomes a means of spiritual elevation.
